Overview

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at NMSU seeks to enable its undergraduate students to be responsible citizens, lifelong learners, and professional geographers with critical thinking and problem-solving skills that make them competitive in both graduate programs and the job market.

To this end, the Department offers a comprehensive academic undergraduate program that leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Geography with a concentration in either Human-Environment Relationships (HER) or Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIS&T).

The Department also offers access to various kinds of geospatial analytical software (e.g., ArcGIS, ERDAS, and ENVI) in our teaching/computing laboratory, access to field equipment (e.g., GPS units) from our field laboratory, research opportunities Spatial Applications Research Center, one-on-one advising, awards and scholarships, information about career opportunities, and personal and professional development opportunities in various student organizations (Undergraduate Geography and Environmental Studies Organization, Kappa Xi Chapter of GTU, NMSU Student Chapter of APSRS).

* The Department of Geography at NMSU also offers a Minor in Geography and a Minor in Geographic Information Science & Technology (GIS&T).
